Do you crave a nap after your lunch break? Do you need a couple cups of coffee to get you through the workday? Eating the right foods can help you stay awake and remain productive throughout the day.
According to research from the Health Enhancement Research Organization, it has been found that employees who made healthy eating choices all day long were 25% more likely to have a better job performance. They also found that those who ate 5+ servings of fruits and vegetables at least 4 times a week were 20% more likely to have higher productivity at work. The food that we eat directly affects our performance and productivity at work.
Did you know that our brains consume 20% of our daily calorie intake? Our brain performs best when it has 25 grams of glucose circulating our bodies. Our brains need a constant supply of glucose and fat, but only from the right source.
Pastas, cereal, white bread, soda and candy have glucose; but these just provides a quick sugar rush and then cause our systems to crash, which makes us less productive at work. Eating fruits, vegetables and whole grains actually provides a steady supply of energy to the brain.
Choose foods with low glycemic carbohydrates, high protein and healthy fats such as:
- Whole wheat bread or brown rice
- Dark chocolate
